Meet Dr. Maria Montessori

Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), an Italian physician and educator, was the first woman to receive a medical degree in Italy. With a particular genius for observing children as they really are and how they effectively learn, Dr. Montessori developed a scientifically based method of educating children.

Dr. Montessori's philosophy includes the concept that children learn best in prepared environments that promote independence within structured limits. She observed that children are internally motivated by a natural curiosity and a love of knowledge about the world. That knowledge is obtained by active participation.

“The things he sees are not just remembered; they are a part of his soul.”
— Dr. Maria Montessori

In a Montessori classroom, children accelerate their academics as they're able to. Lessons are conducted in individual or small group settings based on where children are at in their learning. This allows the student to grow at their own pace and enjoy the process as they go!
